The Child Nutrition Program Advisor, and employee of the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), is housed at Great Rivers Educational Cooperative (GREC).  This is a collaborative effort between GREC and ADE.  It makes it possible for the ADE employees to be more accessible to districts in the area and allows ADE employees to live in places other than the Little Rock area.  The counties covered by this Program Advisor are:   Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Lee, Mississippi, Monroe, Phillips, Poinsett, and Prairie.

 

The main responsibility of the program Advisor is to monitor the districts’ Child Nutrition Programs, including the National School Lunch Program, the School Breakfast Program, the After School Snack Program, and the Summer Fedding Program which are under the direction of the United States Department of Agriculture.  Monitoring is done by conducting coordinated reviews and nutrient analysis of menus according to established federal regulations.

 

            Other responsibilities include:

                       

*            Providing technical assistance to Districts in the assigned area

At the request of either the Superintendent or Child Nutrition Director

 

*            Conduct training programs, both on-site and formal, for Child

            Nutrition personnel

 

*            Work with the Child Nutrition professional organization by attending

            Scheduled meetings of the Arkansas School Food Service Association

            And to serve as advisor to ASFSA

 

*            Network with other allied organizations promoting the goals of the

            Child Nutrition Program
