Distance Learning
Calendar | Registration Form | Staff | Arkansas Distance Learning Portal

Distance Learning is the technology and educational process used to provide instruction when the student and teacher are in different locations.  This method of instruction requires coordination between and among schools and content providers.  The distance learning coordinator works with the various providers in the state and the schools to help plan for classes and to ensure that all students receive the courses they need.  The distance learning coordinator also ensures that teachers and facilitators are trained in using the compressed interactive equipment.  Besides assisting schools with their curriculum needs, distance learning has become a very important part of the various professional development programs offered by Great River's Educational Cooperative by providing workshops to teachers and administrators.

Some of the goals for this program as stated in Act 1192 of 2003 are to:

  • Help alleviate teacher shortage
  • Provide Additional Course Scheduling Opportunities
  • Provide Supplemental or Enriched Instruction
  • Provide Professional Development
  • Provide Grant Money to purchase equipment

Great River’s supports, trains, and consults with all of the schools in our cooperative.  All of our high schools currently have distance learning equipment and are using the equipment to receive classes or send classes.
