As young children grow and develop, they learn skills in the areas of:
Speech, Language, Thinking (Cognition)
Self-help, Social / Emotional, and Motor Skills
Children learn mainly through their senses – vision, hearing, touch, taste and smell. For many reasons, a child may develop at a slower rate than most children of the same age.
If you think your child’s development may be delayed, contact one of our preschool offices to schedule a free screening.Or, you may ask your child's teacher to contact us.
If you live in one of the Great Rivers districts and your child attends a Head Start, ABC classroom, private preschool or family daycare home, the screening will be done there with your permission. If your child doesn't attend a program, we can meet you at a place near your home or at one of our five offices.
If the screening results indicate any concerns, we will meet again to discuss our more in-depth testing services. Should these tests show a need for special services, we will provide them with your permission.
Great Rivers employs speech pathologists and teachers who are developmental specialists. They provide therapy and specialized instruction based on an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
The Great Rivers Preschool Special
